Depression, anxiety, and autoimmune symptoms after birth is not how it's supposed to be. There is a much better way, and I'm here to show you how to do just that. Hey, my friend, I'm Maranda Bower, a mother to four kids and a biology student turned scientist obsessed with changing the world through postpartum care. Join us as we talk to mothers and the providers who serve them and getting evidence-based information that actually supports the mind, body, and soul in the years after birth.
Hello, everyone! I'm back from an epic masterclass with several hundred attendees, and I'm incredibly excited. You can probably sense the intensity—I have goosebumps right now. The session ran for a solid 90 minutes, slightly over, as I tend to be talkative. If you've been following this podcast, you know this training focused on building a thriving postpartum business. It's a departure from my usual content, where I mainly discuss supporting postpartum healing and providers assisting mothers and women.
I'm branching out to speak up for those in the business world. If you're running a business, this episode is a must-listen. Even if you're not, let me share why I'm having this conversation. My inbox has been overflowing, especially after completing this masterclass. The interest stems from the path I've carved over the years. As the founder of Postpartum University, a multi-six-figure company in over 40 countries, I bring a business degree, a background in biology and research, and I'm pursuing a BA in neurobiology. Certified in various fields, I've been on stage for over 15 years and have personal experiences battling depression, anxiety, bipolar rage, and autoimmune disease.
The convergence of my experiences and observing shifts in the postpartum field compelled me to address the current landscape. The postpartum field is undergoing radical changes, reshaping our experience of postpartum. There's a significant shift happening, and I want to delve into why. Many are entering this field, recognizing its importance and driven by personal experiences where they lacked proper postpartum care.
The market is evolving, with more people acknowledging the postpartum field's potential. Market research projects extraordinary growth by 2030, indicating a temporary low period currently experienced. Despite current economic struggles, the postpartum care market was valued at $2.22 billion in 2021, expected to grow 6.5% from 2022 to 2030. This underscores the value of supporting women in this field.
People are waking up to the shortcomings in postpartum care, questioning why they haven't been taught crucial information. The demand for better care is rising, with individuals seeking doulas, nutrition support, and comprehensive postpartum experiences. Businesses are recognizing this demand, and certified members in our community are witnessing a surge in requests for their services. The momentum is building as women demand and seek better postpartum care to avoid issues like depression, anxiety, autoimmune problems, fatigue, and more.
In essence, the postpartum field is experiencing a transformative shift, and businesses and individuals alike are realizing the significance of providing better care in this crucial period.

What's happening in postpartum and how we experience motherhood is not okay. There's a recognition of existing gaps, and I find it exciting that people are starting to identify these gaps and express the desire to reclaim them in their lives. Women want nourishment, to be the queens of their homes, and to establish internal support systems. By seeking support, they become queens in their homes, owning their space, and embodying the mothers they want to be.
This involves aligning with the rhythms of their bodies, nurturing their nervous systems, and overall well-being. This realization allows them to embrace their vision of motherhood. It's a beautiful shift that women are beginning to recognize. However, with this awareness comes the challenge of marketing these essential services.
In a recent podcast episode on postpartum retreats, I highlighted a significant market corporations are tapping into. The breastfeeding market and sleep training industry, valued at billions, respond to parents' struggles with exhaustion. Corporations offer solutions like supplements, belly wraps, creams, educational services, doula services, and retreat experiences, creating a massive market. This development is both alarming and exciting.
The challenge for individuals in the postpartum field is to redefine postpartum care authentically. We, as providers—nutrition support counselors, lactation consultants, therapists, pelvic floor physical therapists, doulas, midwives, doctors—serve our communities holistically. Our local, individualized approach is far more powerful than what corporations can provide.
Success in our work not only brings financial rewards but also fosters a shift toward local support. Supporting local businesses is crucial, similar to the "buy local" concept. In the postpartum field, it's about steering away from big corporations profiting from postpartum retreats or mass-produced products. By focusing on local support, we correct a market that has needed fixing for too long.
Postpartum is a sacred period, and the aim is to reclaim it for mothers, taking it out of corporations' hands. Transforming this market requires providing better care and reshaping how people perceive and receive postpartum care. The goal is for future generations to look back and question why postpartum support wasn't prioritized in our time.
However, if those in the postpartum field, whether business owners, providers, or educators, don't succeed in lending a hand to women in their communities, they may turn to large corporations. This could result in surrendering control to corporations, as seen in various aspects of postpartum and women's healthcare.
The call is to bring healthy postpartum experiences and births back into homes, making individuals the queens of their homes, surrounded by support. This transformation is happening now, offering a unique opportunity that may not come again in our lifetimes. If you are a business, explore our membership for thriving and growing as a provider. If you're a mom, seek local support and connect with your community for the support you deserve.
